Beyond his impressive resume as a producer, Compa is a master on the decks as well. He's a DJ's DJ, strictly playing vinyl and dubplates. This purism helped to get him recognized by dubstep mainstays such as Mala, whose aforementioned label Deep Medi Musik is home to Compa's scorching new EP: Truth In Sound.
Available as both a digital download and 12" vinyl, the release boasts 4 unique tracks. We open with the title track, an energetic gumbo of bouncy dancefloor rhythms, punctuated by deconstructed dancehall-style horns which seem to attack from all angles. The following track "Noctule" is much darker fare: ominous vocal samples lead into sparse drum patterns and windmills of punchy sub-bass, with some notes exploding like depth charges without warning. "Tibetan Chant" is the first B-side, although existing fans will recognize it as a staple of recent live sets (it's featured as an unreleased track the FACT Mix above). The song is a psychedelic pan-flute laden journey, and eponymous chants masterfully acknowledges the importance of deep vibrations, from Tibetan Monks to dubstep culture. The EP closes with "Four Four Clap," a nasty club track peppered with the titular claps and plenty of attitude.
