It’s hard to imagine a thriving bass music scene in Denver without the weekly escapades of Electronic Tuesdays. Over the past five years, Sub.Mission has nurtured a following of bass hungry enthusiasts to build a scene that loves as much as it parties. Welcoming many flavors of electronic music with open arms, the weekly Cervantes’ gatherings break down musical barriers as younger fans out for the party stumble across new music from both local and afar. Consistent showings prove the dedication of the thriving bass music scene here. The low frequency therapy of Tuesday nights has truly become a ritual.
This Tuesday February 2nd, Sub.Mission celebrates the 5 year anniversary of Electronic Tuesdays with an international lineup that has turned heads around the States. As a nod to the old school, dubstep pioneers Hatcha and Youngsta will be headlining alongside one of dubstep’s most exciting producers, Commodo.
Hatcha was actually one of the original owners of the infamous Big Apple record store in Croydon. With a residency at the legendary club night FWD in London, Hatcha helped push the earliest species of dubstep alongside a grip of influential producers and DJ’s. Hatcha hasn’t touched down in Denver in quite some time, so there is some real anticipation to see what he has in store for us.
As if Hatcha weren’t enough, fellow pioneer Youngsta joins the bill with his flawless mixing and exclusive collection of treats. Perhaps best known for his monthly Rinse FM show, Youngsta has been involved with Rinse FM since its inception in 1994 when it illegally broadcasted music. Aside from his radio show, you can catch him performing across the globe and running the mighty Tempa label which has put out many of dubstep’s timeless anthems over the years.
Rounding out the headliners, we have dubstep’s chief beatsmith known as Commodo. Globally remarked as one of dubstep’s most interesting producers, Commodo has become a posterchild for Deep Medi alongside fellow artists Gantz & Kahn. Responsible for some of the most rinsed out anthems of the past few years, each Commodo tune brings forth a fresh-tasting and musically sound style that doesn’t wither with age. Drawing influences from a wide range of music that dwells far from the low frequency focus of dubstep, he crafts unique, sample based tracks that can be as raw as they are eerie. Another beast behind the decks, a Commodo set is a journey; spanning from soothing soul-influenced music to rowdy grime to dark, hypnotic dubstep. With his debut album forthcoming on Black Acre in April, prepare your ears for unreleased sweetness from the legend.
Get excited!
