While dubstep music has seen a dramatic and tumultuous evolution from small, smoke-filled clubs to high-profile festivals, there has always been a vibrant through-line of deep, atmospheric productions. Sukh Knight has been a key contributor to the genre for nearly a decade. He’s had an impressive career, from releasing music with the infamous, now-defunct grime/dubstep collective True Tiger, to producing for Kromestar’s Nebula imprint, to starting his own label New World Audio with brother and fellow producer Squarewave.
Knight is coming fresh off the heels of a massive 2-single release on the aforementioned New World Audio, formally entitled Interstellar/Hustlerz. The lead track opens with a spine-tingling sample of an extra-terrestrial nature over murky ambiance, before delving into lurching, sinister sub-bass. A distorted lead-synth melody emerges from the depths, breathing a subtle aggression into the track and – true to its name – ascending to the cosmos.
The B side, Hustlerz (though it hardly deserves to be called a B-side) is much more wonky and bellicose compared to the lead track, and really demonstrates Knight’s range as a producer. Punchy and biting, Hustlerz is sure to get a dancefloor bouncing.
