Tuesdays are my favorite day of the week for a variety of reasons. The way I see it, there is no other weekly event in Denver that showcases such a wide spectrum of musical talent, crafty vendors, unique painters, and a highly supportive local fan base that adds a special vibe to the night. Now that March is finally here, Sub.mission has presented us with yet another completely stacked month of bass music talent from a wide range of genres and styles. This week we kicked things off with the ‘Living In A Bubble EP Tour’ featuring Levitation Jones & Toadface. To only add to the excitement of the night, local DJ’s/Producers Dalek One and Iant would be making their Electronic Tuesdays returns to face off in the February Winners Showcase DJ Battles where only 1 would be crowned as the battle champion from the previous month. The night was packed with talent, the bass was hitting hard, and the 1st Electronic Tuesdays of the month of March went off with a bang! Here’s the rewind!
The night launched in full force at 9:00pm sharp as soon as Dalek One took the stage to demonstrate his extensive talents as both a DJ and a Producer in a highly anticipated bassweight battle versus the one like ‘Iant’. Having made an impact in their previous battles at Electronic Tuesdays and delivering memorable performances, the dance floor on Tuesday night packed out early as Dalek One and Iant would be competing head-to-head with 1 hour time slots to give us a full sense of their mixing abilities and track selections to get the crowd moving.
If you’ve been keeping up with the Denver dubstep scene over the years, you know that Dalek One is one of the rawest upcoming local talents that is making waves throughout the state of Colorado and far beyond. Coming fresh off of a 100% original performance at last week’s battle, Dalek One came fully equipped yet again and reminded us what he’s all about. An arsenal of original tunes along with some classic 140 bangers combined to put on a heart-thumping performance to kick things off and the night was only beginning.
Following Dalek One’s opening performance Iant took the stage and proved to be no easy competitor. No stranger to Cervantes’ Other Side, Iant has performed at Electronic Tuesdays a grip of times and has beat out the competition in a series of battles that earned him a time slot at Colorado’s highly renowned Sonic Bloom Music Festival this past Summer. Even though Iant might lurk under the radar, his weighty sound is unmistakable and he’s sure to rumble the dance floor wherever he performs.
After a heated battle between the 2 selectors in one of the closest and best competitions we’ve seen yet, Dalek One emerged as this battle champion and was crowned the winner. Congratulation to Dalek One and big ups to Iant for putting on amazing sets to set the tone early in the night and further demonstrate just how talented the local bass music scene in Colorado really is. If you haven’t been making it out to Cervantes’ early enough to see the locals perform in the battles, you’ve really been missing out!

Next up it was time for the one like Toadface to take the stage in his Colorado return. Having seen Toadface perform at Electronic Tuesdays back in June alongside Yheti, I knew to fasten my dancing shoes and prepare myself for a diverse set that would not be exclusive to a single genre or sound. Fusing elements from Dubstep and Trap, along with experimental psychedelic 808 beats, Toadface’s sound is ever evolving and kept the dance floor bumpin’ from beginning to end! The vast majority of the tunes that Toadface played out were definitely new to me and offered a refreshing change of pace to previous editions of Electronic Tuesdays. My personal favorite part of his set was when he rinsed out Noisia & Ivy Lab’s tune ‘Possession.’ Similar to the title of the tune itself, my body was taken over and captivated by breaky-synths and crunchy percussions. Toadface brought the heat in his Colorado return with a track selections that kept you guessing and an energetic stage presence that was unmatched. Thankfully for us, Toadface would be returning to the stage for the final hour of the night for a massive back-to-back performance alongside Levitation Jones to send us off and close out the night.

The night was still young and the audience had been properly warmed up by the time that Levitation Jones took the stage. This would be my 1st time seeing Levitation Jones perform and he undoubtedly made a lasting impression on the dance floor. As soon as he took the stage, Levitation Jones spent zero time messing around and got straight to business unleashing some hard-hitting 140 beats blended with his own futuristic soundscape. Feeding off of the energy in the room and playing out to his crowd, Levitation Jones must’ve known that Denver LOVES dubstep and he accommodated our needs masterfully. Going into his set, I had no idea what to expect from Mr. Jones, but by this time, it was far too late. He graced the decks with an upbeat and aggressive energy that was contagious as he proceeded to drop some of my all time favorite dubstep tunes from a variety of artists like Requake, Badklaat, DMZ, & many more. He also threw down his tune ‘Invisible Beat’ toward the end of his set which was a special treat to hear played live as he informed us that it’s rarity for him to play this one out nowadays.

Time really does fly when you’re having fun and before I knew, it was already 1am and there was an entire hour left to go. At this point Levitation Jones takes the microphone to inform us that he’d be welcoming his counterpart Toadface back to the stage to close out the night with a bang! The announcement was well received from the audience and was accompanied by clapping hands and crowd that roared in approval. The duo took the decks and combined in full force to close out the night strong and give us exactly what we came for. Opening their set with Genetix’ classic tune ‘Squid Attack’, this song was indicative that the remainder of their set would be packed with aggressive bass lines that made you question your sanity while embracing the dance floor in its energetic wholesomeness. Tracks like JPhelpz ‘Big Up King’ dropped into Rusko’s ‘Woo Boost’ had the crowd losing their minds and breaking a sweat on in the narrow-halled venue that is Cervantes’ Other Side. The entire set had an upbeat fluidity to it and there was no such thing as catching your breath or getting a break. Their relentless energy had the crowd captivated and there wasn’t a stale moment throughout any of their back-to-back session. Tunes like Bommer & Crowell’s ‘Nah Nah VIP’, Emalkay’s ‘Fabrication’, Sukh Knights’ ‘Diesol Not Petrol’ and even Datsik’s ‘Hydraulic’ took us through a full journey of dubstep and I personally can’t remember the last time that I raged so hard. I found my home at the front of the dance floor closest to the subwoofers and I was permanently glued during the entire duration of the set. Toward the end of their performance they slowed down the tempo and broke us off with their tune ‘Living In A Bubble’ and the rest was history.

Going into the night, I had an idea of what to expect from Levitation and Jones & Toadface but those expectations were completely shattered and blown out of the water! It’s no surprise that Toadface and Levitation Jones are gaining massive momentum and turning heads in the realm of bass music and if you ever get the chance to see either of them perform, I wouldn’t think twice!
