Coming in fresh off the monumental Electronic Tuesdays 5 year anniversary, Sub.mission presented us with yet another massive artist to keep the momentum going through February. This past Tuesday night the one and only Swindle made his Denver return grace us with a headlining performance and present us with some more Peace, Love, and Music. If you’ve ever seen Swindle perform in the past, you know that his track selections, and unmatched stage presence combine to put on some of the most epic performances and this past Tuesday night was no exception. To only add to this madness, Sub.mission resident Dubwol was in town from Los Angeles to close out the night, and the January Winners Showcase battles were also in full effect! Here’s the rewind!
The night began at 9:00pm sharp as DJ’s SANDOS, Sin7, & GBP made their Electronic Tuesday returns to square-off once again in this championship edition of DJ Battles. Having won each of their previous battles at E-Tuesdays during the month of January, each of these 3 artists was eager to make their return to the stage to battle it out once again in hopes to advance to be crowned the champion and win the opportunity to perform a time slot at an upcoming Sub.mission show. The battles this week were comprised of a variety of styles and sounds ranging from Hip-Hop/Trap, Deeper Sub-bass, as well as heavier, wonky dubstep as well. Each battler attracted a diverse fan base that came out to show their support and the dance floor was increasingly growing at the beginning of the night. After a heated battle among the 3 selectors, GBP won over the audience and judges and was crowned the battle champion for the month of January. Congratulations to GBP! Be on the lookout for his return at an upcoming Sub.mission show and be sure to keep tabs on this fine talent!

Following the January Winners Showcase battles, it was now time for a headlining performance from the man himself, Swindle! Having seen Swindle perform a handful of times in previous years, I knew to expect a well-rounded and assorted set that would not be exclusive to a single genre or BPM range. On Tuesday night Swindle performed one of the most electrifying sets that I have seen from him to-date as he took the stage and proceeded to unleash his signature funky, jazzy smooth sound that he is internationally recognized for. One of the thigns that I love most about Swindle is that his unique sound caters to a wide audience of listeners from a multitude of backgrounds and age ranges. Hailing from the depths of Croydon, Swindle has an extensive musical knowledge stemming from jungle and rootsy sounds and he has been collecting records since he was only 12 years old. His vast musical varieties were evident on Tuesday night as he delivered a set packed with his classic jazzy/grime sound as well as some upbeat Drum & Bass, and of course, Dubstep. Performing a healthy balance of tunes from both the Deep Medi imprint as well as his Butterz crew, Swindle’s set was energetic and lively. Tune after tune, there were hands high in the air and a roaring sensation that was projected from the audience. Tracks ranging from Kahn’s ‘Abbatoir’ , Skepta’s ‘Shutdown’ , JME’s ‘Man Don’t Care’ , and of course Swindle’s very own ‘Forrest Funk’ , ‘Do The Jazz’, ‘London to LA’ and the tune ‘Denver’ that Swindle made just for us ignited the dance floor and had everyone erupting in excitement. We were even lucky enough to hear some highly exclusive material like ‘DMZ vs MZN’ Digital Mystikz remix which was a very special and rare treat. Swindle always has surprises up his sleeves when he performs in Denver and on Tuesday night this was certainly the case. The love and energy that Swindle puts in to his live performances is truly unmatched and is one of the many things that separates him from the ordinary DJ/Producer. Peace, Love, and Music is exactly what Swindle captures in his music and he is undoubtedly one of the most innovative and forward thinking artists pushing the boundaries of bass music.

Following up a massive headlining set and continuing to gauge and capture the crowd’s interest after an artist like Swindle is no easy task. The average DJ may find the occasion intimidating, but on Tuesday night Sub.mission resident Dubwol stepped up to the decks and took charge like a true boss. No stranger to Cervantes’ Other Side, Dubwol has been performing at Electronic Tuesdays on various occasions throughout the years and is recognized for his multi faceted sound schemes. His multi-layered, clean mixing abilities move crowds from beginning to end and they solidify him as one of the most exciting talents on the Sub.mission roster of resident DJ’s. Since his earlier days as a DJ throughout Colorado, Dubwol now resides in California where he has been experimenting with producing tunes of his own and his style has much evolved and is emphasizing the deeper, minimal styles of low-end sound. On Tuesday night Dubwol opened up his set with some UK Grime tunes to keep the crowd hooked and he transitioned to some more dungeon-like abysmal tones. Maintaining a stage presence that was centered and focused, Dubwol was in the zone as he proceeded to induce the audience into a deep state of meditation, flexing the subwoofers and rumbling the ground beneath your feet. Dubwol performed an arsenal of exclusive tunes that offered a new and refreshing feel to his performance, while also still rinsing out some classics like Gantz’ ‘Spry Sinister’ Coki’s ‘Gangster For Life’, and Commodo’s ‘Free Focus Remix’ to close out his set. The late night crew was getting busy on the dance floor and gave Dubwol a warm welcoming in his Colorado return. Big ups to everyone that came out to witness such a massive night as Sub.mission keeps presenting us top-notch talent week after week with no sign of slowing down!
