Underappreciated as they may be, local DJs are the backbone of any healthy scene. Sub.mission understands this better than anyone: now an international brand, Sub.mission began as a local crew. Its resident DJs have always been leaders on the .mission of moving people through sound, not hype.
2019 promises to be the biggest year yet as far as headliners are concerned, but Denver hasn’t forgotten about its devoted locals. This year, Sub.mission continues the decade-long tradition of resident tag sets to open our most anticipated Denver shows - and the resident DJ roster is expanding. We’re thrilled to introduce Colorado selectors Khonsu, Retina, Synchronicity, and Thanom as the newest Sub.mission resident DJs.
Khonsu
Colorado DJ and producer Khonsu may be young, but already the artist is exceptionally decorated. His release resume includes solo EP’s on Wheel & Deal Records, Anti-Vision, and FatKidOnFire; recently Khonsu played on direct support for Khiva at The Black Box. His passion for dubstep and refined ear for the sound shines through the rising DJ’s one-of-a-kind sets. Khonsu is just getting warmed up - Sub.mission is proud to play a part in this talented artist’s budding career.
Retina
For many years, Retina has stood as a staple on Sub.mission’s dance floors. Few artists or fans have experienced as many dubstep sets as this new resident, and on the decks, it shows: the DJ knows how to build a set. As a producer, Retina follows Denver dubstep’s divergent tradition of bending rules and breaking expectations to re-invent the genre as we know it. His newest release on Noctem is forthcoming on March 1st - also tune into the Trampled EP on Silent Motion and his recent Sub.mission podcast.
Synchronicity
Before she ever touched the decks, Synchronicity served as a member of the Sub.mission promo team and a writer for outlets including FatKidOnFire. As a new initiate to the 140 sound, Synchronicity made a religious point to be the first on the dance floor every Tuesday night: her obsession with dubstep and the DJ’s craft was cultivated by these early sets from friends and locals, namely the Sub.mission resident DJs. The resident DJs mentored her on (and off) the decks, and after years of practice, Synchronicity couldn’t be more honored to join their ranks. Today, the writer/DJ is also Sub.mission’s social media manager. Her goal for her DJ career is still to educate as many people as possible to genuine underground sounds, and to be the best local selector that Denver ever saw. Check out Sub.mission podcasts #221 & #247, and her latest mix on Elemental Arts FM.
Thanom
Thanom’s standing as a Sub.mission resident DJ is intuitive, and thoroughly well-deserved. The DJ and producer has been billed with countless legends on The Black Box main stage, including Truth, Youngsta, N-Type, and many more. His understated charisma, unique selection, and ultra-smooth mixing have won the artist a devoted following among Denver’s dubstep community. A talented producer in his own right, Thanom’s motivation as a DJ is simple: he loves to play good tunes on a good sound system. Listen to Thanom’s Sub.mission podcast, and stay tuned to events from his own crew, Diverse Culmination.
